Course description

Object-Oriented Programming in PHP

Short description (for course listings)

Learn to write clean, reusable, and maintainable PHP code using object-oriented programming. This course takes you from classes and objects to inheritance, interfaces, and design patterns, so you can build structured, real-world applications.

Full description

Modern PHP is built on object-oriented principles, and understanding them is essential for working with frameworks like Laravel and Symfony. In this course, you’ll move beyond procedural scripts and learn how to organize your code into well-structured, reusable components.

You’ll start with the fundamentals of classes, objects, properties, and methods, then work up to core OOP concepts such as encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, and abstraction. Along the way, you’ll learn how to use interfaces, abstract classes, traits, namespaces, and autoloading, and how to handle errors with exceptions. Hands-on exercises and a final mini project will help you apply each concept in practice.

What you’ll learn

Create and use classes, objects, properties, and methods

Apply constructors, destructors, and access modifiers (public, protected, private)

Use inheritance, polymorphism, and method overriding

Work with abstract classes, interfaces, and traits

Use static properties and methods, and class constants

Organize code with namespaces and autoloading (PSR-4)

Handle errors with exceptions and try/catch

Apply common design patterns such as Singleton, Factory, and Dependency Injection

Follow clean code practices and SOLID principles

Requirements

Basic knowledge of PHP (variables, loops, functions, arrays)

A computer with PHP and a code editor installed (e.g., XAMPP and VS Code)

Who this course is for

Beginner PHP developers ready to level up

Students preparing to learn Laravel or other PHP frameworks

Web developers who want to write cleaner, more professional code

What will i learn?

  • Learning Outcomes By the end of this course, you will be able to: Design and build PHP applications using classes, objects, and well-organized, reusable code Apply the four pillars of OOP: encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, and abstraction Use interfaces, abstract classes, and traits to create flexible and extensible code structures Control access to data with visibility modifiers and getters/setters Organize large projects with namespaces and PSR-4 autoloading Handle errors gracefully using exceptions and custom exception classes Implement common design patterns such as Singleton, Factory, and Dependency Injection Write clean, maintainable code that follows SOLID principles Refactor procedural PHP scripts into object-oriented code Build a complete mini project using OOP best practices Career and skill outcomes Feel confident reading and understanding the code of modern PHP frameworks like Laravel and Symfony Be ready to move on to advanced topics such as MVC architecture, working with databases using PDO, and building APIs Strengthen your portfolio with a real OOP-based project Prepare for PHP developer interviews with a solid grasp of OOP concepts Short version (for course listings) After completing this course, you will be able to: Build structured PHP applications using classes and objects Apply inheritance, polymorphism, interfaces, and traits Write clean, reusable code that follows SOLID principles Confidently move on to frameworks like Laravel and Symfony

Requirements

  • Knowledge Basic PHP skills: variables, data types, operators, conditionals, loops, functions, and arrays Familiarity with HTML and how a web page works (helpful, not mandatory) No prior experience with object-oriented programming is needed, since the course starts from the basics Tools and setup A computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux PHP 8.0 or higher installed (via XAMPP, WAMP, MAMP, Laragon, or Docker) A code editor such as Visual Studio Code, PhpStorm, or Sublime Text A modern web browser such as Chrome or Firefox Mindset Willingness to practice by writing code along with the lessons Curiosity and patience, since OOP can feel unfamiliar at first but becomes natural with practice Optional but helpful Basic understanding of MySQL or databases Familiarity with Git for version control
