Course description

Learn AI from zero, in about an hour

AI is changing how we teach, study and work. This course explains it in plain words, shows you how to use it well, and lets you build something real. It is made for teachers and university students, whether you are technical or not.

Your instructor, Touqeer Abbas (AI Instructor), teaches on a whiteboard with clear, everyday examples. Every video has quiz questions with a pause countdown, so you can check your understanding as you go.

What's inside

  1. What Is AI? AI, machine learning, deep learning and generative AI in one picture, plus common myths.
  2. How Machines Learn: data, features and labels; training and test data; train a model with no code in Teachable Machine.
  3. Neural Networks and Deep Learning: neurons, weights and layers, and how a network learns from its mistakes.
  4. Generative AI and Large Language Models: how ChatGPT-style models predict the next token, and why they sometimes make things up.
  5. Prompting That Works: the five ingredients of a good prompt (role, task, context, format, examples) and how to improve a weak one.
  6. AI Tools for Teachers: draft lesson plans, rubrics, quizzes and feedback, then review them for real students.
  7. AI Tools for Students and Research: study actively, find sources that cite, verify claims and use AI honestly.
  8. Python for AI, Part 1: variables, lists, loops, functions and pandas in Google Colab, with nothing to install.
  9. Your First Machine-Learning Model: train, predict and score a model on the iris dataset with scikit-learn.
  10. Responsible AI and the Road Ahead: bias, privacy, academic integrity, human oversight and your personal AI plan.

Course features

  • Learn at your own pace, on any device

Who this course is for

  • Teachers who want to use AI for lesson planning, assessment and feedback
  • University students who want to study and research with AI, honestly and effectively
  • Anyone curious about how AI works, with no background needed

What will i learn?

  • Explain what AI is and how machine learning differs from traditional programming
  • Tell AI, machine learning, deep learning and generative AI apart
  • Explain data, features, labels, and training vs test data
  • Understand how neural networks and large language models work, in plain words
  • Write clear prompts using role, task, context, format and examples
  • Use AI to draft lesson plans, rubrics, quizzes and feedback, and review them carefully
  • Use AI for active study and research, verify claims and cite AI use correctly
  • Write basic Python in Google Colab and summarize data with pandas
  • Train and test your first machine-learning model with scikit-learn
  • Use AI responsibly: bias, privacy, academic integrity and human oversight

Requirements

  • No prior AI or programming experience needed
  • A computer, tablet or phone with an internet connection
  • A free Google account (for Google Colab in the Python videos)
  • Curiosity and about one hour, at your own pace

Frequently asked question

No. Videos 1 to 7 need no code at all. Videos 8 and 9 teach Python step by step in Google Colab, which runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install

Teachers and university students, technical or not. Teachers learn to use AI for lesson plans, quizzes and feedback; students learn to study and research with AI honestly. Anyone curious about AI is welcome.

10 videos of about 6 minutes each, around 63 minutes in total. You can learn at your own pace and rewatch any video.

Yes. Every video has 4 multiple-choice questions (40 in total). Pause when the countdown appears, choose your answer, then watch the explanation.

A computer, tablet or phone with internet. For the Python videos, a free Google account to use Google Colab.

Yes. In video 2 you train an image model with no code in Teachable Machine, and in video 9 you build your first machine-learning model in Python with scikit-learn.
